The goal of Channel3000.com’s redesign was to clean up the cluttered look and confusing navigation throughout the site. The old site was outdated and had no design consistency whatsoever - dozens of clashing colors, different fonts for seemingly everything, dead-end navigation, etc.
After re-imagining the site map and condensing information, we were ready to provide a fresh look and feel. My goal was to create something very clean, efficient, and perhaps most importantly, easy to use. After all - the goal of a news site should be delivering news to users with ease.
I started by providing a few color palettes with no more than two main colors with shade variations. By subduing the colors (shades of blues and grays were ultimately chosen), the site became much friendlier in appearance and easier on the eyes.
Next step was cleaning up the hierarchy. Users now know what section they are in at all times and it’s clear how to navigate through the site.
The response from users has been overwhelmingly positive thus far, citing the new color scheme and ease-of-use.
